Have you ever heard the saying that curtains are the eyebrows of a room? We agree! They do more than just filter light, they define the character of a space. Drapes can be a statement making focal point, or a complimentary final touch, perfectly tying a scheme together. And like eyebrows, the whole ensemble can fall flat if done poorly; which is why we’re here to tell you everything you need to know about our bespoke curtain service, and how to measure your space to ensure a flawless fit every time.

Why Measuring Correctly Matters
Why Measuring Correctly Matters
Get the right fit, and curtains can transform a room, both aesthetically, and functionally. Drapes that are too short, hang awkwardly or have the wrong amount of fullness can throw off the balance of a space and fail to block out the light. Well, not in our House! Measuring correctly is the difference between standard window coverings and stand-out dream drapes.

From the Top
From the Top
First you will want to decide on whether your curtains will hang inside or outside the reveal. It’s most common to go outside, which is where the pole or track sits above the casing. But you may be after a seamless look where you want the curtain to sit snugly inside the window casing. This is inside the reveal.
Whether you opt for a curtain pole, rod or track is completely up to preference. A wooden or brass pole, or rod can give a more classic feel with the option to match the hardware to your interiors, whilst a track offers a contemporary, clean look.
For most curtains (outside the reveal), it’s recommended that poles and tracks are hung 15-20cm above the window, and slightly wider than the frame. But If you want to cheat the look of bigger windows (and maximise on light), our trick is to hang it as near to the ceiling as you can, and around 30cm wider than the window frame on each side. That way, when your curtains are open, they hang to the side and don’t block out any of that precious sunlight.

How to Measure Width
How to Measure Width
Whether you want a pair of curtains, or a single, we will ask you for the total width. This is the area you want your curtains to cover when closed, so you will measure along the pole or track, excluding the finials.
Our curtains are usually made to 1.5 fullness, but if you’d like them more voluminous (bigger pleats), or more sleek (smaller pleats), get in touch when ordering and let us know.

How to Measure Drop
How to Measure Drop
Do you want the clean, modern lines of a full length curtain that just touches the floor? The romance of puddled drapes? Sill length for a child’s room or kitchen?
To determine the drop, measure from the top of your pole or track to where you want your curtains to fall. If you’re opting for floor length, a top tip is to stand on the hook of your tape measure and loosen the tape until it reaches the pole - it’s easier than climbing up! For puddled drapes, measure to the floor then add your desired extra length (15-30cm extra is common).

Can I order fabric samples before choosing a design?
Yes, and it’s always a good idea. Ordering samples allows you to see how a fabric looks and feels in your space. Colours can change dramatically depending on lighting, and textures are something you really need to experience first-hand. Our samples make it easy to compare different prints or palettes before making a final decision. Whether you’re reupholstering a chair or planning full-length curtains, testing a sample first helps avoid surprises and ensures you choose a design that feels right for your home.
How much fabric will I need for my project?
It depends on the piece and the look you’re aiming for. A simple chair seat might only need one meter, while full curtains could require ten metres or more. We offer helpful guides, but every project is unique. Factors like pattern repeat, fabric width and whether you want a gathered or tailored finish all play a role. Our team can advise based on your specific project, or you can book a complimentary consultation if you’d like more personalised guidance.
