Our Colour Story
Colour has always been at the heart of House of Hackney. We launched in 2011 - a riot of colour in a world of beige - with a mission to bring colour into the interior after a decade of white-walled living. We’ve long been asked by our customers to create a paint range in the mood and ethos of the brand, one that mirrors the hues of our print collections. We wanted to answer the call for a paint collection but like anything we do at House of Hackney it needed to have purpose. We were motivated to deliver a paint collection that would bring beauty and creativity to the home while reflecting the principles of sustainability that makes House of Hackney a B corp brand.

Our Eco Credentials
Our vibrant approach to colour has always been rooted in nature’s tonal harmony. Like many artists before us, we look to the natural world as our everlasting design muse. In our work we hope to imitate its beauty, creativity and idyllic compositions, an ethos that is emulated in each and every one of our paint shades.
Inspired by the colours of nature’s apothecary the collection pays homage to the natural world not only through irreverent colour - but also in the very way our paint is made. With the ability to transform any space in a matter of two coats, our water-based, Low VOC, non-toxic paint is locally produced to order in Britain, ensuring there is no waste.
Honouring nature’s clever use of resources the collection has end-to-end recyclable packaging, including a complimentary FSC-approved stirrer crafted from by-products.
A friend to the planet and to the animal kingdom, our paint consists of no animal derived products and is not tested on animals. And to keep the kindness rolling; for each paint tin sold, House of Hackney purchases and protects 35 square metres of forest, thanks to our partnership with the World Land Trust, the international conservation charity that safeguards our most vital natural ecosystems and threatened habitats, acre by acre.

Our Paint Properties
The 60 + colours behind ‘The Art of Nature’ paint palette we’ve created are not endless but perfectly considered, with each of the key colour ‘families’ represented in their tonal harmony. We will slowly and artfully grow these colours. We understand that the finish is as important as the colour and we’ve created a low sheen, chalky finish for a timeless aesthetic.
We’ve also made sure that our paint is durable, easy to apply - with just 2 coats needed - and quick-drying so that we have all your paint needs covered. Our aim is to inspire you to get creative with nature’s paintbox. With a choice of bases - emulsion for walls and ceilings, as well as eggshell for woodwork - there are endless possibilities with House of Hackney paint. There are no rules, just encouragement from us to decorate in a way that makes you happy. Follow your heart and choose the colours that you love.
From our House to yours, ‘The Art of Nature’ ships globally.
