Our Nature Licensing Fee
You wouldn’t publish a book without crediting its author. You wouldn’t photograph a model without paying a fee. So why do we take from Nature for free?
Animal print may be everywhere, but for too long it’s been decontextualised from its source. We profit from the beauty, resources and symbolism of the natural world. Shouldn’t we pay Nature too? Mirroring Nature’s principle of reciprocity, in return for lending her artistry, we pledge a Nature Licensing Fee; 1% of all House of Hackney sales (not profit) go directly to Nature. Through our partnership with World Land Trust, we help protect and restore
the living systems from which our inspiration is drawn.
For us? 1 penny in every pound.
For Nature? Returns that could change our future.
ABOUT US
Our Story
Built upon the foundations of creativity with purpose, integrity in our actions and compassion for people and planet, Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle first dreamed up House of Hackney in 2011. Today, we use our brand as a force for good, championing craft, Nature and community in our mission to contribute to the restoration of the natural world and the quality of all life on Earth.
In 2023, an independent director acting on behalf of Mother Nature and Future Generations joined our board to sense-check and guide our work for the collective good.
Our wonderful customers have protected 513 acres of threatened habitats and their wildlife through our partnership with World Land Trust.
Through events, protests, lobbying and campaigns, we support a collective of positive disruptors to take urgent action on behalf of Mother Nature and Future Generations.
We have begun to account for the full cost the extractive impact of our production has on Nature, so we can quantify the true health and success of our company.
