How to Decorate a Kid's Room
Whilst dreaming up a scheme for your little oneβs room, release your inner child and be enchanted by the transformative power of print and colour. From fairy-tale landscapes with dragons and dinosaurs, to blooming florals, mermaids and animals, immerse your child in a magical world thatβs sure to ignite their imagination. Β
A childβs bedroom is a space where you can really let your (and their) imagination run free. This is a place of their own, where they will play, learn and grow, and an opportunity for them to stamp their personality on your home, so be adventurous and get creative with pattern and colour.
WILD CHILD
Wallpaper like ourΒ DINOSAURIAΒ dinosaur print, fantastical and beastlyΒ TREMATONIAΒ or the charmingΒ HACKNEY EMPIREΒ will fit the brief when paired with brightly hued paints.
FLOWER POWER
Why not try a riot of HOLLYHOCKS, exuberant ARTESANIA or the storybook English florals of VOYSEYβS GARDEN will ensure their room will bloom. Perhaps theyβd like to take a trip through the looking glass with our ALICE IN WONDERLAND print? The world is their oyster!Β
Top tip: For a pop of print or colour, create a half wall by wallpapering up to the dado rail, make a feature wall or paint a fireplace and architectural details in a contrasting shade to the walls.
MIXING MEDIUMS
To create the perfect print playground, match curtains and bedding to the wallpaper, or opt for a contrasting pattern. If you want the walls to be the main event, choose fabrics in one of the accent colours from the print, which will make the room feel cohesive and intentional.
THROUGH THE AGES
While bright colours are known to be stimulating for young children, if yours prefers a more pared back aesthetic, or is perhaps at an age where they want something more grown up, our chalky matte paints in neutrals and pastel greens, blues and pinks might be the way to go. And for a subtle pop of pattern, the skyβs the limit with our cloud printΒ STRATUS; the perfect wallpaper for an accent ceiling.
COSY COCOONING
Hanging curtains around the bed can be a great way to create a cosy safe space for your littles ones. Choose from fantasy prints, florals, stripes or plain fabrics in sumptuous velvets, or cool cotton-linens if theyβre sensitive to texture. You can also use curtains to create a theatre stage, a dressing up area or secret den, the possibilities are endless!
Top tip: Decorating any room is an investment, so we recommend choosing the biggest bed that is practical. That way the bedroom will grow with your child. Itβs also great to get them involved, through picking out their favourite prints and colours, making fabric notice boards or creating their own art that can be hung in their new room.
