FORIS Cotton Linen Blind - Verdure

Our bespoke curtains and blinds are crafted at Premierchoice in Cambridgeshire, where they have been creating made-to-measure window coverings since the 1970s. From preparing our fabric and pattern-matching the prints to setting in cotton lining and stitching the pleats, every step of the process is meticulously carried out to the highest standard, so you get to take home a product that has been made to stand the test of time. That’s why they’re the best in the business, and that’s why they are part of the House of Hackney family.

Since the day our House was built, a sense of compassion for people and planet has served as the foundation of everything we do. House of Hackney is evolving from a B Corp sustainable brand to a regenerative one. This means doing things differently to bring about social and economic change, promoting the restoration of Nature. It means going beyond simply ‘sustaining’ and instead, actively making things better.

Our ambition is to create products that honour Future Generations. We are doing this by evolving our supply chain to source regenerative cotton directly from farmers, exploring wood fibre free wallpaper innovations and substituting fossil fuel derived ingredients in our paint for plant based alternatives. That’s just our main categories. We embrace opportunities to champion and trial material innovations such as mycelium and microbes in all products and packaging.

As a business rooted in the beauty of the natural world, we believe it's imperative we hold ourselves to account for our impact on Nature and the quality of life we leave behind for the generations to come. 

In 2023, we gave Mother Nature and Future Generations legal personhood on our board, as a director. This means a person, independent of our business, ensures that in every decision made across all departments, our impact on Nature (including human wellbeing) is considered. All of our fabrics can be used for our bespoke curtains and blinds. 

Cotton is the main raw material in our fabrics. Currently the majority of our cotton is sourced from Better Cotton members. As we understand the challenges with Better Cotton and certification systems generally, we are exploring sourcing regeneratively grown cotton fibre directly from farmers as a way to transform cotton trade for good. 

Our commitment to Canopy Style and Canopy Pack4Good means we will ensure no Ancient and Endangered forest fibres will be used in our products, packaging and paper supply chains by 2025. That means all wood based textile fibres including viscose, will be FSC certified and/or from recycled sources or overall be replaced by a wood-fibre free material innovation. 

We are exploring the possibility of using regeneratively grown British wool fibres for our curtain interlining, sourced from WoolkeepersⓇ  collective, traceable woolgrowers in the UK.
