The Ideal Hue for You

How to Pick the Perfect Shade

Infuse your home with colour and discover 'The Art of Nature', our House’s paint range of 60+ sublime shades. An ode to our everlasting muse, each and every shade is swatched from the nuances of Mother Nature’s colour palette. From statement shades procured from plants and petals, to tranquil pigment-inspired tones; here’s how to tap into nature’s paintbox and conjure your desired mood by picking the ideal hue for you…

Start with the Heart

When selecting your ideal hue, we encourage you to start with the heart. Select the shade that sparks an emotional response - if you are playing with a blank canvas you have the creative freedom to choose anything that appeals to you.

Size up Your Space

Consider the size and function of the space, this will help determine what shade may work best. For example when coating your box room with colour, selecting lighter hues can make your space feel larger and more airy, while opting for darker shades can have a cosy, cocooning effect.

Get in the Mood

Every colour will inspire a different mood, so what exactly is your desired effect? Blues imbue a soothing sense of serenity and are perfect for those spaces in which you need to unwind - think bedrooms and bathrooms. While verdant greens and statement reds offer an inviting confidence suited to social areas such as living and dining rooms.

Let there be Light

It’s important to consider the light levels and orientation of your chosen room, as this will help determine your colour palette. Top tip: Avoid introducing too many cooler hues into a north-facing room, opt for warmer tones to soften the light and elevate the ambience.

Pairing with Print

Looking to match paint to your favourite House of Hackney print? We’ve got you (and your scheme) covered. Read more here.

Consider Colour Coordination

Consider other colours you will be working into your scheme. How will these complement your chosen shade? For example, coordinate high contrast shades to make the perfect pairing or opt for a more contemporary approach to colour with a striking multi tonal scheme.

Ready, Set, Swatch

Now you have determined the ideal hue for you, it is time to order a swatch or sample pot. Painted for a finish and colour true to life, swatches are available in matte Emulsion only. For our Eggshell paint the finish will vary slightly to the Emulsion swatch.

Now you’ve picked your print, it's time to order your wallpaper sample. Place your sample on the wall and see
your print in its desired location. Top tip: Leave it up throughout the day to see its luxurious finish in all lights.

Pick your Print

Once you’ve seen your sample, you can now get creative with colour. Keep things complementary and choose a
paint colour that also features in your wallpaper. Or make a statement and pair with a contrasting colour palette.
