THE 3 Cs
Our House was built on the three guiding principles of creativity, compassion and consciousness.
If your existing seats are well-loved, but perhaps a little too well-worn, be it a sumptuous printed velvet or a smooth cotton-linen – can be enough to make you want to snuggle up on them all over again.
When it comes to furniture (which can also be a scene stealer in its own right), your choice will likely be dictated by the number of family members and friends who will regularly be hanging out here: will a cosy two-seater sofa be enough, or will you also need a chaise longue and a few ‘bottomans’ for your visitors to park their, um, bottoms on? If your existing seats are well-loved, but perhaps a little too well-worn, recovering them in a new fabric – be it a sumptuous printed velvet or a smooth cotton-linen – can be enough to make you want to snuggle up on them all over again.
A mantelpiece, if you’re lucky enough to have one, is even more worthy.
The last few pieces of the puzzle are the myriad layers and textures that make a space so inviting. Think a coffee table stacked with books and tactile cushions in an intriguing mix of shapes, sizes and patterns – all things which are easy to move around until you find a combination that appeals to you. A mantelpiece, if you’re lucky enough to have one, is even more swoon-worthy with the addition of eye-catching candelabras, hand-painted porcelain candle pots and treasured keepsakes you’ll have picked up on your travels.

Creativity, compassion and consciousness: here are the three guiding principles on which our House was built…

CREATIVITY
The lifeblood of our House is also at the very heart of the human spirit; and when combined with a sense of purpose, we believe that creativity has limitless potential to be a force for good.
Powered by a fearless imagination and innovative way of thinking, we’ve blazed a trail through the magnolia-walled interiors of the 21st century with painterly prints and vibrant colour.
We’re the leaders of the pack; creating trends without being ‘trendy’ and crafting 'future heirlooms' - pieces that will last not just season after season, but year after year.
We’ve ripped up the interiors rulebook – and now, we urge you to go your own way too. By demystifying the decorating process through our inspirational guides, our aim is to empower you to go with your heart's desire, to honour your creative freedom and give you the confidence to do so.
So when it comes to welcoming our House into your home, we say this above all: to thine own self be true.
If your existing seats are well-loved, but perhaps a little too well-worn, be it a sumptuous printed velvet or a smooth cotton-linen – can be enough to make you want to snuggle up on them all over again.

LEADERS OF THE PACK
Raging against the minimalist machine, we’ve blazed a trail through the magnolia-walled interiors of the 21st century with our painterly prints and exquisite colours. We’re the punks of the design world, ripping up the interiors rule book and demystifying the decorating process. And, we create trends without being ‘trendy’, tapping into the zeitgeist to craft pieces that will last not just season after season, but year after year.

COMPASSION
The Earth is an eternal source of inspiration for House of Hackney - she is both the muse and the poet.
In gratitude for all that Mother Nature gives us, we do everything in our power to give back, harnessing eco-friendly materials and methods while championing causes that safeguard the world’s precious wildlife.
Proudly certified as a B Corp, and partenered with the World Land Trust and Panthera, we envision seats in our board meetings for both the Earth and the next generation.
We bring beauty and creativity to the home while reflecting the principles of sustainability that make us who we are. And, by flying the flag for British manufacturing, our business is not only environmentally responsible, but also helps to nurture local, skilled employment.
Our House cares as deeply for people as it does the planet we call home. We support charities that protect the most vulnerable. We rally together to strengthen our local community and, for the House of Hackney family, we create jobs founded on dignity, purpose and wellbeing.

CONSCIOUSNESS
We are highly attuned to what’s going on in this world – and in the otherworld.
Our influences have always been drawn from astrology and the magical side of nature. Now, we find ourselves at the forefront of a rising awareness of our deep-rooted need as humans to commune with the earth, the seasons and the lunar cycles.
Where other brands have a company calendar, we follow the Wheel of the Year, interweaving our collections and content as the seasons unfold; living in harmony with the rythms of nature.
At the heart of all this is the home: the centre of your universe. Together, we can magic your space into a personal sanctuary where health and happiness can flourish…

WILD THINGS
Mother nature is our muse. From tropical palm trees to prowling tigers, our designs bring a sense of the outdoors in. And there’s substance behind our signature style: the botanical beauties and characterful beasts that populate our prints are not just playful, but symbolic of the natural world’s plight and need to be safeguarded.

REBEL REBEL
We sit with the misfits, the ones who see things differently. Our heroes are the likes of 19th century non-conformist William Morris and the grand dames of design – Dorothy Draper, Madeleine Castaing, Sister Parish and Elsie de Wolfe – who challenged conventions between the 1870s and 1950s. United by a bold use of colour and pattern, we stand together to disrupt the status quo.
LONDON CALLING
The city is our playground. We draw upon London’s iconic subcultures and rich history in architecture and textiles, pouring the energy of the capital into our collections. At the heart of it all is Hackney: a vibrant borough with a progressive, independent spirit and a community that’s as multicultural and creative as it gets.

A KIND OF MAGIC
We find inspiration in everything. Films, fairy tales, art, the present and the past. For us, music is especially incendiary – the soundtrack we listen to while designing ignites the very ideas and concepts behind each new collection. We take all our cultural references in and make unexpected connections between these influences. The result? A unique alchemy that imbues our prints and palettes.

Stacks of fluffy towels and, space permitting, a Bottoman (ideal for sitting on whilst getting ready) will soften the room’s hard lines. So too will a botanical oasis: many plants like it hot and will thrive in a bathroom even if sunshine is lacking. Oh, and speaking of humidity, our wallpaper is made from a high-quality substrate, which ensures it won’t wander off the walls no matter how steamy it gets. And there you have it: a relaxing haven where you can recharge your batteries in peace… if you do ever get a minute to yourself, that is.
“Guests love an Instagram moment in a bathroom,” says Steve, “so make it a talking point at your next party by filling it with print and colour.” Another top tip for your powder room’s shining moment on social media is to keep your pharmaceuticals behind closed cabinet doors – although a line-up of your prettiest toiletries, carefully curated on the sink, a shelf or trolley, will look Instagram-perfect.

Any bathroom can be reclaimed as your own sanctuary and, depending on your vibe, transformed into a space rivalling either a chic hotel spa or the powder room of a cool member’s club. The fastest route (and, somewhat unsurprisingly, our favourite) is to splurge on sumptuous wallpaper. As bathrooms are often the smallest spots in the house, covering all four walls is an easy and enticing prospect. Given that you’re only in there fleetingly – except for time spent languishing in the tub – you’re unlikely to tire of your choice of print. So, why not opt for something playful and unconventional: think troops of climbing monkeys, flourishes of tropical foliage or painterly wildflowers unfurling in psychedelic colour. Deep, rich shades make an even bigger splash, contrasting beautifully with white ceramics and metallic finishes. If you really want to push the boat out, try painting the bath in the same shade as the base of your wallpaper – alternatively, complement one of the key colours in the pattern with coordinating tiles.
In our House, we also can’t get enough of plants. From clusters of geraniums to giant leafy ferns.
In our House, we also can’t get enough of plants. From clusters of geraniums to giant leafy ferns, botanicals have the unique power to infuse a room with colour, vitality and life. But amidst all this, the loveliest addition might just be to carve out your own quiet little nook.
